THE STORY:

There are moments in life when it feels like you're drowning—overwhelmed by pain, loss, or circumstances that seem too heavy to carry. I’ve been there. I felt that weight when my friend died, when I was bullied at school, and when I felt misunderstood by the whole world. Life felt so heavy that I couldn’t breathe. The bullying and drama piled on, leaving me desperate for relief. In that desperation, I tried to fix the pain on my own—I purposely hurt myself, hoping it would somehow lighten the burden. I even sat by the side of a big road, thinking about which car I could jump in front of—not to end my life but to knock me into a coma, just so I could get a break from it all. I was suffocating, drowning in the overwhelming weight of my emotions.

For me, this season came when I was battling deep emotional pain. I carried wounds from past friendships, struggled with self-worth, and felt completely lost. I tried to stay afloat by clinging to things that I thought would help—relationships, achievements, even distractions—but nothing could steady me. The more I tried to control things, the deeper I sank. Maybe you’ve felt that too—like no matter how hard you fight, the waves keep pulling you under.

But even when I couldn’t reach for Him, God reached for me. Psalm 34:18 says, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” I didn’t have to be strong enough to swim to Him; He met me right where I was, drowning in sorrow. Slowly, He began to lift me out of that dark place—reminding me of His love, surrounding me with people who truly cared, and showing me that my worth isn’t defined by my past or my pain.

God didn’t just pull me out; He taught me how to breathe again. He gave me peace in place of panic, hope in place of despair, and joy where there was once sorrow. Looking back, I see now that He was always near, even when I felt furthest from Him.

If you’re in a season where you feel like you’re barely keeping your head above water, know this: God sees you. He hears every silent cry and knows every burden you carry. You are not alone in this.

Let go of the need to fight on your own and allow Him to step in. His strength is made perfect in our weakness, and His love is deeper than any storm you’re facing. He is reaching out to you even now, ready to lift you from the depths and bring you into a place of peace, healing, and restoration.

Take a deep breath. You are held, you are loved, and you are never beyond His reach. Let Him pull you out and show you the life of freedom and joy He has waiting for you.
